Forensic Point Clouds; can they be utilized in 3D Accident Reconstruction?

April 18th 2022

What is a forensic point cloud?

A forensic point cloud dataset represents relative X,Y,Z coordinates and color information of every single point on the surface of an object or scene. Point clouds are generated using Laser Scanning, Photogrammetry, and 3D modelling techniques. Once captured, the forensic point cloud can then be used with accident reconstruction software to 3D simulate and/or animate the accident. This can be a powerful tool for the Accident Reconstructionist. To learn more about 3D Forensic Accident Reconstruction, please click here.

Both PC Crash and Virtual Crash are capable of easily integrating point clouds from 3D Laser Scanners, and our LISKE Experts are trained in using both programs. Please contact us today for more information.
